Katie was born in Front Royal, Virginia in 1973. She received a Bachelors of Arts degree from the College of Notre Dame of Maryland, Baltimore in 1995 and a Masters of Fine Arts degree from the American University, Washington, DC. Her teachers included Mark Oxman, Luis Silva, Robert Copskey, Kevin Raines and Paul Glasgow, among others. In 1995, Katie was awarded a William J Fulbright Scholarship to study sculpture in Pietrasanta, Italy. there, she worked in close proximity with well known sculptors Nathaniel Kaz, Igor Mitoraj, Euin Park and Girolamo Cuilla, as well as an international group of artists and stone carvers.
Her work has been shown in national juried group exhibits and in Galleries where she has lived locally. Recent juried shows include 2002's Remembrance, Artists Respond to September 11th, at the Marshall Gallery, Greensboro, NC. In 1996, The Gormely Gallery in Baltimore, MD had a solo exhibit of her sculpture featuring the works done while living in Italy. She has a life size bronze figure on permanent public display at the College of Notre Dame of Maryland, a piece that was commissioned by the College to help celebrate its centennial.
Katie's sculptures are in a variety of media including stone, bronze, plaster, clay and wax. She also does numerous drawings, wood block prints and etchings. Her recent works reflect an interest in manipulating the human figure to find innovative expressions of form.
