Artist Statement
I am a figure sculptor whose works seek to define lyrical movement and capture the essence of anatomical form. The figure is universal, familiar to everyone. I find in it infinite ways to explore ideas of beauty and express emotions of joy, love and sadness. I use a variety of media; stone, bronze, plaster, clay and collage in traditional and non traditional ways to both challenge and invite the viewer to look closer and discover beauty and movement. The narratives in my work are from life, past, present, myths and real stories. Sometimes I feel the need to tell all the details, while other times just fragments of the story are enough. My influences are: Michelangelo, Rodin, Toulouse-Lautrec, Egon Schiele, the unknown sculptors of the Gothic Cathedrals, carnival, theatre and opera characters, dance movements and everyday people.
